Professor Hanan Samet
I was reminded by a confrare who works on MapInfo’s excellent SpatialWare product that I had not mentioned Hanen Samet alongside Giuseppe Peano and David Hilbert.
Thanks for the reminder.
Hanen Samet is one of the giants of the spatial applications of “regular tesselation of space” decompositions and “space curves”. I have read some of his works in the past and had the honour of hearing him speak at a Spatial Data Handling seminar back in the 1980s.
Note that he is, first and foremost, a computer scientist.
Spatial isn’t special.
